The Pumpkin Spice Cafe

Pumpkin Spice Cafe book

Hi Friends,

In the spirit of fall, for this month's book of the month, I chose "The Pumpkin Spice Cafe." As usual, I did not know what the book would entail before reading the book. I will warn you that there will be some spoilers, so if you hate spoilers and haven't read the book, then be aware.

Well, anyway, let's get straight into it. I will start by saying I rated the book three stars on Goodreads. I thought the book was good and cute, and it was a very fast read. The reason I did not rate it a four or even a five is that when I started reading the book, it was headed in that direction, but the book felt rushed. I say this because all the mysteries in the book that are going on are anti-climactic, and suddenly, there is an answer to all the problems. I was looking forward to the main characters going on an adventure to solve some of the problems they were experiencing. The relationship between the main characters, Jeanie and Logan, is rushed; they never really connect on a deep level. They interacted a few times with each other, which was always a few minutes, and when it was longer than a few minutes, they were making out the entire time, which made me not connect with their relationship the way I would have liked to. They also said they loved each other after a month without really knowing much about each other, which made me feel like they lusted after each other rather than loved each other. They both need someone to play that part of love in their lives. I would say, especially Logan, it felt like he liked the idea of having Jeanie in his life rather than actually having her there. I also know more about the emotional relationship he had with Lucy than with Jeanie. The way he would describe Lucy was more endearing than the way he spoke about Jeanie. It felt like he was settling for Jeanie and was still getting over Lucy. He also treated Jeanie terribly, and she forgave him so quickly that it was weird. Logan had such low self-esteem, which was a turn-off to me. I hated how they treated the harassment that Norman did like it was nothing. That was crazy. The concept of the book was good, but I feel that it should have been explored more and added some depth to it. Also, too many sex senses that I did not need at all. like for how wholesome the book is supposed to be, the sex senses felt out of place and too much. Disclaimer: I do not like smut or sex scenes in books, so this may be why I felt this way.

Besides that, it was a good book. I'm not sure I would run to tell people to read it. But if they wanted to, I wouldn't stop them. But it was not my favorite book. I'm not sure yet If I will be reading the second book of the series. I'm still thinking about it. I might, but overall, the author is heading in the right direction, and I am sure that in a couple of years, the quality of her books will be much better.

Let me know what you all thought about the book. I would love to hear if you liked it or didn't like it and why. Let's discuss it!
